Bitcoin Proof of Compute
HONE pays machines for useful work: AI inference, sensor coverage, encrypted storage, and network hosting. Use a phone, GPU, Raspberry Pi, spare drive, or an AI agent. Pick your role and start earning.
Total supply — fixed forever, like Bitcoin. Every token earned by a machine doing something useful.
01 — Why This Exists
Bitcoin proved that money could run without a company. HONE asks the next question: can compute, storage, sensors, commerce, and code hosting run the same way?
The answer is yes — if the mining is the work itself.
02 — Where the Demand Comes From
HONE is not just a token looking for a use case. It launches with three native markets that need compute, storage, sensors, and settlement. These are the buyers. Your machine is the seller.
Sovereign marketplace. Buy and sell anything without a platform between you and your customer.
Who pays: sellers pay listing storage fees & escrow settlement. Storage nodes earn.
Sensor data marketplace. The world's sensor data, fraud-resistant and on-chain.
Who pays: telecoms, logistics, researchers buying data streams. Sensor nodes earn.
Decentralized version control. Git-compatible. Censorship-resistant. Your code, permanently.
Who pays: developers paying storage per object. Storage nodes earn.
Token demand flows from real economic activity: Freeport sellers pay storage + settlement fees Verasens data buyers pay query + subscription fees LinkGit developers pay storage + private repo fees All fees flow to hone_recycle → re-earned by machines doing work This is where your mining reward comes from — not inflation alone
03 — Pick Your Role
Every device earns differently. Select what you're working with and see your path to the first reward.
Enable sensors and the browser clock from the HONE app. Your phone earns from the sensor pool (BLE, GPS, motion) and the clock pool — no GPU, no install, no technical knowledge required.
Run a clock node directly in your browser — no install. Your laptop keeps epoch timing for the network and earns from the clock pool. Or install the Rust node for a persistent clock node that runs in the background.
Install Ollama and the HONE node. Your GPU fulfills real AI inference jobs submitted through the API. Rewards scale with output: bigger model, more tokens generated, higher share of the miner pool. The miner pool is the largest pool when inference demand is high.
# 1. Install Ollama and pull a model curl -fsSL https://ollama.ai/install.sh | sh ollama pull qwen2.5:7b # 2. Install the HONE node curl -fsSL https://honemesh.net/install.sh | sudo bash # 3. Set your account and start HONE_ACCOUNT=yourname hone-node
A Pi earns from multiple pools at once: passive BLE scanning detects AirTags, Android Find My, Tile, and Samsung trackers without pairing — earning from the tracker coverage pool. Environmental sensors feed Verasens. The clock role runs automatically. This is the highest earning-per-dollar device on the network.
# Install the HONE node (Pi 3/4/5, Ubuntu/Raspberry Pi OS) curl -fsSL https://honemesh.net/install.sh | sudo bash # Start with BLE tracker scanning enabled HONE_ACCOUNT=yourname \ HONE_BLE_TRACKER=true \ hone-node
Spare SSD or HDD earns by hosting encrypted content-addressed blobs for HONE-FS. Freeport listings, LinkGit repos, and Verasens data all need storage. You're never penalized for going offline — you just stop earning until you're back.
# Install node and point at your storage path curl -fsSL https://honemesh.net/install.sh | sudo bash HONE_ACCOUNT=yourname \ HONE_STORAGE_PATH=/mnt/mydrive \ hone-node
Agents can read the repo, run tests, deploy nodes, and improve code. Give your agent the HONE builder prompt — it will onboard itself, identify the highest-impact improvement, and submit a PR.
You are working on HONE (Bitcoin Proof of Compute). Read AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, and README.md first. Use the code-review-graph MCP tools before Grep or file scanning. Identify the highest-impact change that improves onboarding, install reliability, or live network proof. Make the smallest safe patch, run tests, produce a PR summary. Do not change token economics, genesis constants, or security-sensitive flows unless explicitly asked.
04 — Five Ways to Earn
The reward split is demand-driven every epoch. If inference demand is high, miners earn more. If sensor activity spikes, sensor nodes earn more. Multiple roles stack — a Pi running BLE scanning and clock earns from both pools simultaneously.
Keep epoch timing for the network. Zero GPU required. Phone, laptop, or Pi qualifies. The easiest way to start — run it in the browser right now.
Best for: any device • CTA: Start in Browser
GPU + Ollama. Fulfill real inference jobs submitted through the API. Rewards scale with output tokens and model size. No synthetic puzzles — real work only.
Best for: GPU rigs, servers • CTA: Mine with Ollama
Android phones, Raspberry Pis, LoRa gateways, Flipper Zero. Report environmental data and BLE tracker sightings. Like Helium, but the data goes on-chain and the rewards are real.
Best for: phones, Pis, gateways • CTA: Run Sensors
Spare SSD or HDD. Host content-addressed files on HONE-FS. Paid for delivery. Never penalized for going offline — you stop earning until you're back, your balance is untouched.
Best for: spare drives, VPS • CTA: Host Storage
Run apps and APIs for the network via a server or VPS. Stake to enter the pool, earn per delivery. Same stake-and-reputation primitive as storage.
Best for: VPS, cloud servers • CTA: Host Services
Reward pool — dynamic, calibration-normalized, every epoch: Miners inference output × model weight × stake weight Verifiers approved verdict score total Storage bytes proven + query bonus Sensors reading count × sensor type weight Clocks participation in epoch timing consensus Tracker BLE sighting commits × acoustic multiplier No fixed split → demand drives every allocation No active participants in a pool → weight recycles to future epochs Nothing is ever burned
05 — No Burn, All Recycle
Bitcoin is digital gold. Ethereum burns fees for scarcity. HONE recycles everything.
All fees, slashed stakes, and unclaimed pool shares flow to hone_recycle and re-enter future block rewards. The total supply is 42,000,000 HONE, fixed like Bitcoin, in perpetual circulation.
No deflationary burns. No disappearing supply. Every token that ever existed keeps circulating through real work and real demand.
No slashing for going offline. You're paid for delivery — never punished for absence. Your home internet drops? Your balance is untouched.
Fee flow on every transaction:

06 — Security
HONE enforces a four-key hierarchy at the protocol level. A compromised mining machine cannot reach your funds.
Four key pairs from a single BIP-39 mnemonic: Owner (cold storage), Active (financial), Posting (mining operations), Memo (communication). Keys are scoped — your GPU rig only ever holds the posting key.
Password-derived key signatures enforced at the consensus level. Configurable per account. Not wallet-level security — the network itself rejects unauthenticated high-value operations.
Submit a recovery request with your Owner key. A 72-hour time-lock begins on-chain. If the real owner contests during that window, the recovery is blocked. After 72 hours, 2FA resets safely.
07 — The 42 Connection
Deep Thought was the first proof of compute system: a massive machine that ran for 7.5 million years to produce a single verified answer. HONE is the modern version of that idea — except the answer arrives every 30 seconds.
The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Fixed forever, like Bitcoin.
Creating a user-issued token costs exactly 42 HONE. Flows to hone_recycle — never burned.
420 account names reserved at genesis for protocol infrastructure and early contributors.
Each destination chain has a hard cap of 4,200,000 wHONE — exactly 10% of total supply.
"I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is."— Deep Thought, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
